Stress

Stress

“I just can’t relax. There’s always something, always! If I stop for a second something goes wrong and I just can’t deal with it anymore. I’ve had enough and I’m afraid of what I might do next…”

The modern world is stress inducing for most people.

Stress is a very common reason for starting coaching or therapy.

If this resonates with you, talking to a qualified professional will help.

What is Stress?

Stress is the body’s response to a demand and we all experience some stress at times.

Having the right amount of stress can be positive, as it keeps us alert and focused, drawing out our strengths and our ability to meet challenges.

Some people cannot work without it!

The problems start when it’s either too much at once or prolonged over a long period.

When we experience this excessive or prolonged stress it can wear us down.

This can lead to problems, such as

  • Poor judgement
  • A generally negative outlook
  • Irritability
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Inability to relax
  • Agitation
  • Decreasing qualities of relationships
  • Finding things we used to enjoy less fun or annoying
  • Finding people we used to enjoy less fun or annoying
  • Worry
  • Social isolation
  • Substance use such as drugs or drink to cope with the stress

Physical signs of excessive stress can include:

  • Diarrhoea or constipation
  • Nausea
  • Hair loss
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Aches and pains
  • Dizziness
  • Chest pain
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Exhaustion
  • Less immunity to illness
