DEPRESSION PSYCHOTHERAPY AND COUNSELLING ONLINE

DEPRESSION PSYCHOTHERAPY AND COUNSELLING ONLINE

Depression Counselling Online

At any one time, around 1 in 10 people are experiencing symptoms of depression. It’s one of the most common reasons people seek online psychotherapy or counselling. Talking with a qualified therapist can help you understand your depression and start to feel better.

What is Depression?

Feeling low, stressed, or anxious during difficult times is a normal part of life. Usually, a low mood lifts after a short while, especially when triggered by something temporary. Depression is different: it’s a persistent sadness or emptiness that lasts for weeks or months and affects your ability to function.

Depression isn’t weakness, laziness, or something you can simply “snap out of.” It’s a genuine health condition with real symptoms that can range from mild to severe—and, if left untreated, it can lead to self-harm or even suicidal thoughts.

What Does Depression Feel Like?

Depression looks and feels different for everyone, but common symptoms include:

  • Persistent sadness, emptiness, or hopelessness
  • Loss of interest in activities you used to enjoy
  • Tearfulness, irritability, or anxiety
  • Constant tiredness, poor sleep, or lack of appetite/sex drive
  • Physical aches and pains without clear cause

At its mildest, depression may feel like being stuck in a low mood. At its most severe, it can feel like life is no longer worth living.

What Causes Depression?

Depression can arise from many factors—or sometimes none at all. Triggers may include bereavement, relationship difficulties, job loss, trauma, or major life changes such as having a baby. Other contributing factors can include unresolved issues from the past, loneliness, chronic stress, unhealthy relationships, or negative thinking patterns. Family history can also play a role, but even people with “good lives” on the outside may still experience depression.

How Can Therapy Help?

Talking therapies are proven to relieve depression. Together, we’ll:

  • Explore what is happening now and how you’re coping day to day
  • Identify what makes your mood better or worse
  • Design practical changes to help you feel better quickly
  • Look into past experiences that may have made you more vulnerable
  • Build long-term skills for self-regulating your mood and resilience

With time, you can gain insight, feel stronger, and reduce the risk of future depressive episodes.
